Dr. Watkins is originally from Los Angeles and attended podiatry school in San Francisco. Having been born and raised in California he was ready for an adventure and decided to move out of state for his residency training. Dr. Watkins had always been intrigued by the rich culture and history of New Orleans and decided to accept a surgical residency position at East Jefferson General Hospital which he completed in 1996.
When Dr. Watkins moved to Louisiana for his residency program he wasn’t sure that he would stay but after tasting the food and experiencing the rich New Orleans culture he knew this was where he wanted to call home. He worked for Tulane Hospital for a year before opening his private practice in 1997.
Once in private practice, he served as Director of Podiatric Medical Education at Tulane Hospital from 2003 to 2009. He also served as Director of Podiatric Medical Education at Ochsner Medical Center from 2007 to 2010.
Dr. Watkins is Certified in Reconstructive Rearfoot/Ankle Surgery by the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery and a Certified Wound Specialist. He also authored and published a book titled, “Watkins’ Manual of Foot and Ankle Surgery” which sells worldwide.
In his free time Dr. Watkins enjoys gardening with his children, visiting his favorite Sushi restaurants, and reading books.
